Political Party Formations (1851)

Ever since the Compromise of 1850 came about, political party formations have been spreading the country like wildfire. The two political parties that have formed are known as the Free-Soil Party and the Fire-Eaters. Everyone in the North is in favor of the Free-Soil Party. On the other hand, everyone in the South favors the Fire-Eaters. Since I am strongly against slavery, I obviously take part of the Free-Soil Party. Individuals that take part of the Free-Soil Party, demand that Congress prohibit the expansion of slavery in the new territories out west. This would benefit the north since instead of the addition of several more slave states, slavery would be outlawed, having more free states. In addition, my party also believes that there should be free western homesteads for settlers and federal funding for internal improvements. From this, the slogan we practice against slavery is, "Free Soil, Free Speech, Free Labor and Free Men". On the other side of the political spectrum, the Fire-Eaters strongly believe that slavery is protected under the Constitution. In addition, they also want the federal government to protect slavery under federal law. This just shocks me! How can the South strongly believe that treating a human being with such disrespect  is fine, just because they have a different appearance then themselves. Also, they even go to the point of threatening the government that in order to protect the South and it's interests, they would secede from the Union to form a Southern Confederacy if necessary. Everyone in the North thinks that the South only looks out for one thing, themselves. This will lead to conflict between the North and the South! I obviously know that the Northern Abolitionists have the best interests out for the slaves of the South, and know that we will do what ever it takes to finally have equality between everyone, just as it is stated in the Constitution "All men are created equal".
