Every Abolitionist in the North is outraged towards the Kansas-Nebraska Act! Once again, the Southern political figure Stephen Douglas is at it again. Now, he has created an act that is in complete favor of the South and slavery. My fellow Abolitionists and myself can agree on one thing, popular sovereignty is not the correct solution. The Kansas-Nebraska Act states that the new territories of Kansas and Nebraska would be organized by popular sovereignty. From this, the formally agreed upon Missouri Compromise line of 36 30 was null and void. This now created a battleground for the North and South towards where slavery would be practiced within the country. I now fear that popular sovereignty will cause more problems than expected towards allowing a territory to vote on whether or not slavery would be allowed there or not. Now, the Kansas Territory is able to vote on slavery. And just as expected, the voted was rigged by pro-slavery individuals. Wouldn't the polls be able to figure out if the votes that where cast did not equal the amount of men that lived in the territory at the time? It just does not make sense. Everyone in the Free-Soil Party is filled with anger! From this, we created an anti-slavery government known as the Free State Party, to ensure justice for Abolitionists everywhere. But, violence soon broke out and the pro-slavery government began invading our headquarters in Kansas to try to keep us from getting our message out of slavery being a bad practice in the South. After all this, an event known as Bleeding Kansas went down in history! John Brown, a strong abolitionist stirred up violence in Kansas, murdering pro-slavery individuals to get his message across of do not mess with the Abolitionists in the North.
This picture depicts the event of Bleeding Kansas, where John
Brown led the Northern Abolitionists to victory against pro-slavery
individuals who attacked his fellow group, the Free State Party.
